All too often, we see events and attractions described as “the perfect day out for the family” so you may be wary when you hear me use this exact phrase when describing Legoland. It really is true, though. Legoland has something for everyone, including all military members, and there is a reason why there are various parks not only around America but around the whole world meaning that everyone can take part in the rides and marvel at the amazing Lego creations. What’s more, the company offer military discounts for those currently serving, or for veterans of the military.
I’m sure when the first Legoland park, opened way back in 1968, the brand had little idea where they would end up in the 21st century. The first park was located in Billund, Denmark near where Lego is manufactured and was relatively modest. Contrast that with the huge global phenomenon we have today and you can see just how culturally important Legoland is.
Both US parks, in Florida and California, offer military discounts as a way to reward America’s servicemen and women. The process for obtaining your discount is pretty simple. You can simply get 10% off at either park on the day or when purchasing online, but if you want the best deals it is worth checking at your local military base. Often, you will be able to get even bigger discounts and specific deals on longer trips and stays at Legoland and even deals which incorporate transport.
Of the two parks in America, California was the first to open in 1999 and is still as modern and vibrant as it was then. It is split into nine different zones including The Beginning, Explorer Island, Fun Town, Miniland USA, Imagination Zone, Pirate Shores, and more. Whatever your family is into they are sure to find something that fits the bill inside these zones.
The Florida Park is the second biggest Legoland in the world and boasts an amazing 13 zones, many of these are the same as those in California but it also has offerings such as a Chima zone and a Ninjago section for those subsections of the Lego brand. As well as all of this, it is attached to its very own water park. Perfect for cooling off and having a great time splashing around with the kids!
Having offerings in two of the most popular holiday destinations in the USA makes it simple to tie in with a family vacation and other activities in the local area. You can even stay on site! In the case of the California park, military personnel can even get discount on Lego’s very own accommodation (yes, they have their own Lego Hotel!) This is designed to be totally immersive and you can even take your pick of differently themed rooms, Knights, and Dragons, Royal Princesses or Magic Wizards. This is great fun whatever age you are, but if you have a family and are bringing your children along then it is likely to be an experience that lasts forever in your memories.
Multiple day visits. Some people may see Legoland as a ‘one-day’ sort of activity, but that is definitely changing. Not only do they have their stunning castle-style hotel, Legoland offers water parks, aquariums and ever-changing features and exhibits. You simply can’t cram it all into one day. Fortunately for military personnel, many of the offers you are likely to find at your local base will include multiple days stays with many opting for a three-day military pass. These three days don’t actually have to be taken consecutively, either. You can always go two days in a row and save a day for use at a later date, making the whole experience even more cost-effective. Legoland is flexible enough to suit your individual needs.
Legoland is so good for families which inevitably all have different interests. If your kids love rides and are looking for a thrill, there are plenty of rides on offer for them. If your kids would rather see ‘miniland’—a Lego take on a miniature USA which is truly an impressive feat, then this is among hundreds of options for those of us who aren’t keen on rides.
On top of all this, daily shows with whimsical Lego characters are sure to make the whole family laugh and smile. The shows change periodically but there is always something amazing to do. Lego isn’t just about the toy anymore and we even have Lego movies! Your kids can meet the Lego Movie characters such as Emmett in person and see features from other films such as Lego Batman.
Lego has also kept abreast of current technology and done all they can to keep your life simple. They even have an app for both iPhone and Android which can tell you everything about the park. Not only does this feature up-to-date showtimes and an interactive map which can show you exactly where you are whilst going around the park, it even incorporates waiting times and queues for rides to save time waiting around. On top of this, the app also has its own unique offers so you can get further discounts on things around the park.
If the app isn’t for you, rest assured you can still get all the information you need from their brilliant website and very friendly staff. A quick glance at a site like Trip Advisor will tell you just how happy most people are when they visit the park, whether on a one day trip or go for the full Lego experience!
Lego has taken huge strides in the 21st century and has tie-in deals with many different brands, from Star Wars to the Avengers and other Marvel characters sure to get kids and adults alike excited. As the company continues to grow, the owners are doing their bit for all military service members. From those on active duty to retired military personnel, as well as military family members they are offered some brilliant discounts on entry and longer stays. No matter how old your kids are (or how old you are) there is bound to be something at Legoland to get your heart racing.
