Disney offers a variety of promotional tickets and Veteran discounts and each year updates the opportunities available. The Veteran discounts offered are available at both Disney World and Disneyland theme park, as well as other attractions in the Disney family.
The company makes it a priority to honor active duty service members and veterans and do what it can to make parks accessible to military families.
Throughout 2018, both major parks will offer their usual military personnel discount program that offers lower-priced admissions to veterans and their families.
Those who want to visit Disney World can receive discounted park admission for four and five-day admission to the main park and nearby attractions. The cost of the pass is around $200 per person depending on which options you choose. You should ask for the Military Promotional Ticket if you’re interested in this discount.
This ticket can include the Park Hopper pass for an additional fee, which allows retired members and military families to visit all four of the main park, including the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios. A Memory Maker option is also available as an add-on for an additional fee.
Keep in mind, you’ll need to have your military ID or other identifying information with you when you purchase your tickets, as well as when you redeem the discounts.
Specific Disneyland Discount Programs
In addition to the general discount offered to military members, Disneyland offers a variety of discounts for service members, veterans, and their families.
The Disney Armed Forces Salute program offers military personnel a discounted Hopper ticket to Disneyland and the company’s other theme parks. The discount is available for all active military members, including those on active duty, and those in the Reserves or National Guard. It’s also available for retired military members and their spouses.
Those who wish to take advantage of the Armed Forces Salute can choose between a three-day or four-day promotional ticket to Disneyland. The earlier you purchase your tickets the more you save, so if you’re thinking about a Disney vacation in the next few years, buy your military pass as soon as possible. Tickets are available for less than $200 regardless when you buy. Ticket purchases can be made on base or at the Shades of Green resort at Disneyland.
Those who choose to use these discounted tickets should remember that the military discounts cannot be combined with other discounts or promotions. There are also a few blackout dates and those eligible can only purchase six tickets at a time.
In addition to the Disney park admission, there are also several Disney Hotels that offer discounted promotions to military members and veterans.
Through the Disney Armed Forces Salute program, military members and eligible veterans can receive a 30 to 40 percent discount on normal room rates at Disney resorts. The discount is available for many different resorts owned by Disney, including value resorts, moderate resorts, and deluxe resorts. In California, the Disneyland Resort hotels including Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, and Disneyland Hotel are all part of the program.
Rooms available at the discounted rate are limited, so the earlier you book the better. There is also a minimum stay required and there are a few blackout dates.
Extra Time in the Parks
Disney offers a program to park visitors known as Extra Magic Hours. This means you’ll gain early admission to some attractions and features of the park while you’re staying at a Disney owned hotel. You get at least an hour in the park before the gates open to the general public, so you’ll be able to see and do things without the long wait.
Each park and attraction has its own Extra Magic Hours, so you’ll need to check in advance to determine when you can get in where. Parks usually offer Extra Magic Hours about one or two days per week, so you’ll likely have an opportunity to enjoy the time regardless when you stay.

Shades of Green Resort
In addition to the Disney hotels that are located on and near the park properties, there’s a military hotel called Shades of Green located at the Disney’s Orlando park. The hotel is owned by the military and offers affordable room rates and discounted admission for military members and certain veterans. You’ll also enjoy free bus transportation to the parks—a benefit that can save you hundreds of dollars during your stay.
There is currently no Shades of Green Resort at Disneyland in California.
In addition to discounted admission at Disneyland and Disney World, active duty military members and some veterans can enjoy discounts on the Disney cruise line. Special lower military cruise rates are offered on select ships with select dates and they are usually announced about one to two months before the ship sets sail.
Though it can be beneficial to stay on property while visiting Disneyland, many people choose to stay offsite. This can provide savings on hotel rooms but makes getting to the park a little less convenient. However, you might be able to save even more money if you ask about military and veteran discounts at these facilities.
For instance, many rental car companies offer veteran discounts that can save you a great deal on rental cars. You might also be able to find a discounted rate at a nearby hotel. Paired with the discounted admission tickets to the parks, you can get a bargain on your entire vacation to Disneyland or any other Disney properties.
If you’re not sure if a hotel or other facility or attraction offers a discount for veterans it never hurts to ask. Many companies don’t bother promoting their military and veteran discounts but still offer them when asked. And these discounts are always changing so even if you’ve been told “no” in the past, it never hurts to ask if you’re planning your next trip to the parks.
If you’re planning a trip to Disneyland, check into discounts as soon as possible. Many discounts offer limited availability and you don’t want to miss out on anything that could save you money for your vacation.
